Newcomers Club - Selected Charities for 2019-2020

Our Board has proudly chosen to support the following charitable organizations for 2018-2019. Money raised through our fundraising efforts will be distributed to these organizations at the close of our year.  One-half of our funds will go to the President's Choice,  The other half will be equally divided and distributed to the Board's selections.  A brief description of each organization follows:

President’s Pick

Alzheimer's Association This year President Ruth Ruff has selected the Alzheimer’s Association, whose mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health." The organization is the leading voluntary health organization Alzheimer’s care, support and research and provides care and support to all those affected by this disease. Education and support is provided to the millions who face dementia every day. Critical research is an important function of this organization. They are also advocators for the rights of people facing Alzheimer's.

The Board has chosen two charities:page4image34176

Fostering Hope - The mission of Fostering Hope is to provide basic necessities for children in crisis situations. All the kids they serve have had some form of abuse, whether physical, emotional or mental. Often times children in crisis situations have nothing more than the clothes they are wearing. These children may be in the process of starting over in a brand new environment. The Children’s Resource Center is stocked with clothes, personal hygiene items, school supplies, toys and books to help aid these children during this difficult transition. Fostering Hope relies completely on local contributions, to keep their facility open and operating.

Community Kitchen of Myrtle Beach - The Kitchen’s mission is to feed the hungry of the Grand Strand. For the past 25 years, they have served the working poor, senior citizens, veterans, children, the transients and the homeless.

If anyone has any questions about our charities, or if you would like information on volunteering to help any of these choices, please contact Denise Snight at 843-236-4923.

Purple Bucket

Purple Bucket

As our new year begins, we have decided to renew the Purple Bucket Collection. Each month, at our Coffee and again at our Luncheon, we will pass a purple bucket around for your voluntary contributions to the registered charitable organization selected by the Board.

For the month of September, we have selected "Operation Stand Down":

Note:  The Purple Bucket Collection is strictly voluntary. Your support is deeply appreciated.
